I have suffered from Prostatis for over 20 years and want to share what works for me. Over the years I have seen many Urologists, had mutiple cystoscopys, Urodynamics etc. Several Uro's have told me that I have Interstitial Cystitis which may be true, but from time to time my Prostate flares up causing me extreme frequency, pain and discomfort. I've had every antibiotic in the book and many non traditional therapies such as acupucture, reflexology, biofeedback etc. When I have a flare up it is usually following some form of tramau like a fall on my butt or heavy running. I always have mild discomfort after sex. I have to thank a Naturopath who turned me on to a simple method which usually relieves my pain, at least for the short term. Prostatitis is very much an inflammation and he suggested we treat it as such. In addition to taking advil several times a day, try the following:
Get a shower head with a flexible hose and attach it to your shower. This will allow you to apply water directly to the pelvic and penis area where, in my case the pain exists. Apply ice cold followed by warm/hot water directly to the area in cycles of 30 - 45 seconds. Start with cold water for 45 seconds then crank your shower to the hottest you can handle without burning for 45 seconds. Repeat this cycle 5 or 6 times and do the whole thing twice a day. It generally takes 4 or 5 days for the swelling to start to go down but it almost always works for me. I can then sometimes go many months without a flare up. Be patient and continue this regime daily until you get relief. This is a very common way to treat inflammation. A sprained ankle will heal quicker by applying cold and then hot in cycles. Physiotherapists use the cold/hot method to treat all kinds of injuries. It makes sense that a swollen prostate should also respond.
This may not work for everyone but it certainly helps me.
